Cattle

There are 2900 cattle operations with approximately 59,000 head in Hillsborough County, most operations would not have written disaster plans. The ranchers would sort disaster situations by magnitudes of disruption. Their main issues come up during the recovery phase. The main recovery issues would be containment, and identification of the owners of strayed animals, other issues may involve accessibility, maintaining food supply, and flooded areas.

There are two types of operations for the cattle industry: feeder operations, and cow/calf operations. Dairy farm animals require more preparation specifically with daily care (milked 2x a day), more water (30 to 60 gallons per day per head), and food. Dairies work well within their association, Southeast Milk Inc.

with mutual aid. Detailed disaster plans for the industry are already file with the State EOC.
