HORSES

There are often troubles finding large animal veterinarians willing to be called out during disaster emergencies. Dr. Mayo is willing to help out. Dr Greg Christy (DOACS) can also be called upon to get exemption for horses to evacuate the state without the usually required Coggins papers.

Several websites with good information on sites available for horse evacuations and other information:
http://flahorse.com,
http://floridahorse.com, and
http://www.sshc.org/.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners
(http://www.aaep.org/),
and the Florida Association of Equine Practitioners
(http://www.faep.net)
has good information on contacting equine veterinarians.

During a disaster the The Florida State Fair Authority will accept horses as a service to the equine industry. Download the Florida State Fairground's Hurricane Policy for Equestrian Center and Form 1 of 2. for horses.

Once your area has been declared to be under a “watch” or “warning” status, you; MUST call 813-740-3500 for a “Stall Reservation Form” and receive further instructions. Don't delay space is limited.
